4 Components To A Healthy Lifestyle

Living a healthy lifestyle doesn’t mean hours of training at the gym and eating only salad leaves. It’s about making easy-to-manage healthy choices in your day-to-day living.

If you have ever tried to dramatically change your lifestyle you know how difficult it can be. It takes major discipline and there are so many options, fads, supplements and ads trying to get your attention stating “quick weight loss” or “30 pounds in 30 days” or “this is the miracle lifestyle”. Creating a healthy, balanced lifestyle is a journey with many different components that must work together to achieve results. Whether you are wanting to completely transform your body, just be more active, cut out some bad habits or regain your energy, each of these components must be taken into consideration. Having a plan in place and the support you need will lead you to success.

Here we are discussing the 4 main components to achieving and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

#1. Diet– consciously choosing what you put in your body on a daily basis is the starting point to creating a healthy body and mind. It is evident that some foods make you feel good and others don’t. Becoming aware of which is which for you personally will help your overall wellbeing. Putting a basic meal plan in place, that is easy to follow and prepare is key to setting yourself up for success.

#2. Exercise– whether it is making simple choices like taking the stairs, parking farther away from the entrance, going to a fitness class twice a week or putting a daily gym routine in place, doing more exercise daily will make you more energized, alert and focused. We all have stress in our lives, exercise is a natural stress release. Where ever you can fit exercise into your daily routine you will thank yourself down the road.

#3. Sleep– the quality of sleep and the amount are both important when considering this component. Your mind and body require rest to function effectively. As the amount of sleep we need changes as we age so does the quality of the sleep we are getting. Being conscious of our sleeping patterns and getting what we need allows us to be highly productive, function people for our families, our job and our selves.

#4. Thoughts– this component is arguably the most important and the one that is most affected by all the others. Have you noticed that if your diet is full of sugary carbohydrates or processed foods that its difficult for you to concentrate on a task? Have you noticed that when you are hungry you don’t treat people the way that you normally would? Have you noticed that when you exercise it is easier for you to focus and complete tasks? Have you noticed that when you are tired you are more irritable then normal?  Have you noticed that with a lacking combination of each of these components anxiety can set in?

These are examples of how important lifestyle is when it comes to clear thinking. When our thoughts are clear and positive so are our actions, reactions and even the situations we encounter. Being aware of your thoughts and why they are there is the ultimate component of wellbeing.

Top 3 Questions To Ask Your Primary Care Doctor EVERY Visit

As your primary care practitioners, we are here to ensure that you are living a healthy life physically, mentally and spiritually. We care about you as a whole, meaning all components of your lifestyle. We are here to support you in maintaining a full long life. There are certain aspects of your health that you should ask about during every visit.

Here are the top 3 questions to ask your primary care provider during each of your visits.

1. Something’s been bothering me… Can we talk?

Your PCP knows his or her job is to monitor your vitals—weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, etc.—but just as important is gauging your psychological state. Stress, exhaustion, and environmental factors can wreak havoc on your physical health. When your doctor asks, “How are you doing?” Tell her. And let her help you to set goals that will get you back on track. Say: I’m a little worried about how this new job is going to be for me, or My son’s medical issues are my primary focus, and to be honest, I’m mentally and emotionally depleted. Most PCPs became doctors because they want to effect real changes in a patient’s life (in the 2014 Physician’s Foundation survey, 79% of doctors cited “patient relationships” as the most satisfying factor about medical practice.)

So cross the divide, take a few minutes to tell your PCP what’s going on in your life, and make them see you as a human being—not just a collection of vital signs.

2. Is there anything I should be doing differently to live a fuller, longer life?

Everybody knows that lifestyle decisions affect our health—but they have a far more influential role than most people realize. Your doctor’s office should be a safe place for you to talk openly and ask questions like: Is my weight a problem? I’ve been stressed out at work and feeling a lot of pressure at home, am I doing damage? Is it okay for someone in my condition to have three glasses of wine with dinner every night?

Give your PCP the opportunity to help you achieve a greater balance. Share your concerns with him or her, and ask for guidance.

3. What medications can we stop or minimize?

Overtreatment is no small problem. It’s up to you to let your doctors know about all the drugs and supplements you are taking in order for your care and treatment to be the most effective and positive experience. If you change PCP’s often or go to multiple clinics you may be overtreated or causing harmful effects from the combination of prescriptions you are taking. Often less is more, and that is the ultimate goal of treatment. Be sure to let your doctor know everything you are taking to ensure it is serving your highest good, goals, and health.

There are many reasons to choose a PCP and stick to it. Creating a strong relationship with your PCP allows for the highest level of support and understanding of your unique health and lifestyle goals. The T Off Men’s Health team is here to support you every step of the way and care about the need of each individual.

What Your Yearly Wellness Exam Includes

We have all heard the term “yearly routine physical” but what does it really entail? And why is it important to our overall health and wellness?

First, we would like to point out that most major insurance companies in Texas cover at least one routine physical per year at 100% with labs included. This is because they think that in the long run, early detection may save them money from future claims or coverage once health issues become more serious. If insurance is their business, they are probably right, so why not take advantage of the coverage they are offering and take care of yourself, giving yourself peace of mind.

At T Off Men’s Health in Keller, Dallas, and Fort Worth we focus on total men’s wellness which is a broad subject that includes proper medical care, behavioral health, nutrition, fitness, and spirituality. Our new preventative labs test for the following:

  • Colon cancer risk
  • Lung cancer risk
  • Blood cell analysis
  • Liver/kidney function
  • Thyroid
  • Hormone imbalances
  • Vitamin panel
  • Iron and folic acid
  • Advanced cardiac assessment
  • Inflammation and heart disease risk assessment
  • Pre-diabetes/metabolic assessment
  • Genetic testing for gene mutations that are associated with clotting and heart disease
  • Digestion analysis

Why choose us as your primary care practitioners and book your yearly routine physical?

In addition to your routine physical, we are now able to refill prescriptions as your PCP of choice, so we are even more of a one-stop shop for your health and wellness.

So what else do you need to know in order to book your routine physical and choose us as your primary care practitioners team? Let us know. if you have any questions by contacting our corporate office at 817-354-0303.

19 Simple Weight Loss Tips For Men

If you have ever struggled with weight or just wanted to tone up you know there is nothing easy about losing 5 pounds or 80 pounds. There is a lot that goes into living a healthy lifestyle, but the main ingredients are exercise, diet, and mentality. Making small decisions each day can result in big-time fat loss.

Below are 19 simple and effective ways to lose weight. Start with one (or all) —today!

1. Have a clear goal. It should be one that anyone in the world can measure and understand.

2. Encourage yourself. No one ever accomplished anything by beating themselves up along the way. The more positive your mental state can be through your weight loss journey the more rewarding the journey will be.

3. Get Support. It can be overwhelming with all of the weight loss options out there especially when we have a weight loss goal and aren’t seeing the results. Get a support system in place to help you get to where you want to be.

4. Drink more water. Studies have proven that 2 cups of water before each meal result in greater weight loss. It helps fill you up before you even get started.

5. Start your meals with a salad. Salad will provide extra nutrients and some bulk to help fill you up so that you eat less calories overall. Be sure to avoid the high-calorie dressings and order dressing on the side.

6. Eat more protein regularly throughout the day. Replacing refined carbohydrates with lean protein will increase your metabolism. It’s important to time your intake so you’re eating protein regularly throughout the day—not just in one lump sum like most do at dinner. Every meal and snack should include some protein.

7. Eat more fruit and veggies. No one ever gained weight from eating more fruit or veggies. They fill you up, without providing many calories. That includes the so-called “high sugar” fruits like bananas and melons.

8. Add cayenne pepper to your diet. Cayenne is an ingredient that increases fat burning naturally.

9. Decrease processed carbs. They do nothing for you outside of creating a favorable environment for gaining fat.

10. Don’t forget the fiber. Think of fiber like a sponge; it absorbs water and makes you feel full.

11. Eat breakfast and the bulk of your meals by lunch. Then eat progressively less throughout the day. A study published in the Journal of Nutrition showed that eating most of your calories earlier in the day positively influences weight changes.

12. Watch your portions. Avoid the buffet line and never supersize. Instead, make sure you’re following what the nutrition label recommends for a serving.

13. Do full body exercises. Think squats, deadlifts, chin-ups, and pushups. You’ll get more bang for your buck out of each workout.

14. Lift weights. Heavy weights. Build more muscle, burn more calories.

15. Cut down rest time between sets. This will keep your heart rate elevated, causing an increase in calories burned.

16. Do intervals. Study after study after study continues to show intervals are more effective and time efficient than longer activity performed at a lower intensity.

17. Weigh yourself. Studies show daily weigh-ins help enhance weight loss efforts. Don’t live and die by the number. And of course a scale doesn’t decipher between fat and lean body mass, but it can still be of benefit to keep things “in check.”

18. Use the stairs. That’s right: Skip the escalator and elevator. This won’t make or break success, but every little bit helps.

19. Don’t grocery shop hungry. If you do, you’ll buy everything in the aisle – instead of sticking to your list. And most of the time, the foods you buy when hungry will the kinds that sabotage your weight loss efforts.

T Off Men’s Health is here to support your weight loss journey. Let us be the support team you need to finally create the results you are looking for. With our commitment to supporting our patients in feeling and living their best life we are here for you every step of the way.

Finally Reach Your Ideal Weight

Weight loss is difficult as we all know. But how many of us have tried more than just reading a New York best seller for weight loss, followed a fad diet, did what a friend was doing or just tried to work out more? Have you ever committed yourself to a lifestyle change program that treats weight as a disease process? Weight loss that is permanent only occurs with a committed effort to truly change something about who you are. It means thinking differently about food, fitness, your body, your expectations and setting goals to achieve success. It means properly using food, exercise, problem-solving, medication, nutritional supplements, labs, surgery if needed, coaching – and the list goes on. Weight loss is not a quick fix for many, but we often advertise that it is. How many times have you read, “Lose 30lbs for $99”, as though all you had to do was pay the price and the weight would miraculously fall off. You are given a menu plan, medication, etc… and then you are on your own.

The best systems for weight loss take your personal goals and lifestyle and troubleshoot why you are comfortable where you are. Do you know why you don’t change? In one word, “comfort”. You are uncomfortably comfortable with your current life. Sure you want to lose weight, but why would you want to give up those margaritas or soothing doughnuts. Change is not easy, but your overall health and wellbeing will benefit if you commit to true weightless.

T – Off Men’s Health creates a custom weight loss program to support “you”. We stand by “you” in your successes and failures all the way to the point where you finally find the right solution and true results. We have developed a weight loss plan to achieve your weight loss goal. The plan includes:

  • Meal Plans and shopping lists
  • Access to Wellness Portal
  • Access to a Licensed Dietitian via weekly appointments and 24hr HIPAA compliant messaging portal.
  • Nutrition Classes and guided grocery store shopping
  • Prescription weight loss medication for qualified patients
  • Most important and program that is not stuck on selling you one system, but will tell you what works and what doesn’t because you are the centre of care!

We also offer individual weight loss services:

  • Individual weight loss counseling
  • Group nutrition classes
  • B12 Injections – vitamin injection to boost energy, mood, concentration, and immune system
  • Lipotropic Injections – a mixture of Vitamin B12, B6, C, and a few other vitamins and minerals used to increase the metabolic rate and help the body dissolve excess fat through the liver.

Let’s team up and make your weight loss goals your reality.

The Benefits Of Testosterone Treatment

Maybe at this point, you’ve heard talk of low testosterone, maybe you’ve looked into it, maybe you wrote it off as an “I don’t need that”, kind of thing.  The fact of the matter is that there are millions of American’s walking around feeling the effects of low testosterone, not knowing that is what they are actually experiencing and they are sacrificing quality of life due to being undiagnosed. One of the interesting things about low T is that people don’t talk about it. Hormone replacement for women, for one reason or another, has been happening for decades. Low testosterone in men, on the other hand, is something that doctors and scientists have been tapping into more and more and doing research to learn about the effects of testosterone hormone therapy.

We have written previous blogs about the symptoms of low testosterone in the hopes of opening the conversation and raising awareness. Many people are under the assumption that as long as you can get an erection, you do not have low testosterone. This simply is not the case, low libido is actually often the last symptom to arrive. Just for review sake, the most common symptoms of low T are fatigue, irritability, weight gain, mental fogginess, and muscle loss, followed by a drop in your sex drive and ability to perform long after the other symptoms have become problematic.

This is not an article to dive into the symptoms, we’ve already covered that. This is a blog to discuss the benefits that are experienced once testosterone therapy has taken effect. It’s not just about sex, or desire or erections, it’s about quality of life.

Here are the top 5 benefits of testosterone therapy:

#1- Increase in energy levels

Do you remember the days when you could get up in the morning, work hard all day, come home and head out to play or watch football with your buddies and grab wings getting home by midnight to get up at 6 am to do it all over again? Or maybe when your kids were first born and you would be running on minimal sleep but still have the energy you needed to mow the lawn or head out for a softball game or late night grocery run? Is that energy reserve long dried up? An increase in vitality, stamina, and drive are a reported result of testosterone replacement. This is because your body slows down the production of testosterone as you age, so giving your body what it had, to begin with, is returning the body to its younger state of function.

#2- Mental clarity and increase in cognitive function

How would you like to feel focused on tasks at hand? What about being able to remember people, places, and experiences more clearly? What if you could retain information like you used to? Testosterone binds to proteins throughout your body and brain called androgen receptors. With an increase in testosterone, there is a natural increase of androgen receptors increasing the amount of brain function.

#3- Improved mood

“In some ways, the impact on mood is one of the most profound benefits of T that we see,” says Dr. Morgentaler. “Not everybody has that, but when we see it, it’s remarkable. In my practice, patients will say, ‘Oh, my mood’s OK, maybe I just feel a little bit tired or blah.’ And they come back and they say things like, ‘I wake up in the morning and I’m optimistic about my day. I haven’t felt that way in years.'” -inscribed from Men’s Health Website https://www.menshealth.com/health/a19536692/testosterone-therapy-effects/

#4- Easier to build muscle

Muscles are very responsive to testosterone, this being one of the most physically noticeable benefits of T therapy. It’s not that testosterone replacement automatically builds muscle, you will have to put in some work, but it does take less action to produce better results. So if you are trying to bulk up, and doing everything you can, and not seeing the results you are looking for, low T may be the culprit.

#5- Increase in sex drive

Even if you are not experiencing low libido, you may still have low T. This doesn’t mean that when you are on hormone therapy treatment that it won’t be beneficial to your sex life. Testosterone therapy can increase your desire for sex, can increase the sensitivity and stiffness of your erection, and in turn, increase your sexual pleasure in multiple ways. Another thing to keep in mind is that testosterone therapy actually decreases your sperm count, so if you are wanting or not wanting to procreate that will come as a pro or a con for testosterone therapy.

If these benefits haven’t at least sparked your interest in finding out your levels, at least they have educated you about the benefits of being on testosterone. To find out your levels is a quick appointment, you can then discuss your options with one of our providers.

If you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact us through our website or call one of our offices. We are here to get you back to feeling great and restore your quality of life.

Finally Get The Allergy Relief You’ve Been Looking For

Whether you experience allergies yourself or not, you definitely know someone that is affected. You know the tell-tale symptoms; red nose and eyes, sinus congestion, sneezing, runny nose and all around look of exhaustion. If you do experience this yourself you know that there can be little relief. It’s quite astounding to hear so many patients say that living other places they never experienced allergies as bad as here in Texas.

So What Are Allergies Actually?

An Allergy is an abnormal immune system response to typical household and environmental substances. These substances are called allergens. They are found in cat and dog hair, plants, molds, and foods. The allergens cause the immune system to overreact.

When a person eats, inhales or gets an allergen on their skin, an allergic reaction occurs. The body attacks the allergen as an invader by producing antibodies. The antibody, called IgE, attaches to the allergen and acts as a messenger. It calls the body’s immune system into action to defend against the allergen. The body then produces histamine from mast cells. Mast cells are found throughout the respiratory and gastrointestinal system. Histamine produces the symptoms associated with allergies such as sneezing, itching, watery eyes and gastrointestinal complaints.

How We Help

We perform a quick simple test that covers 72 environmental and food allergies to help you keep your energy levels at peak performance.

There are two methods we offer at each of our clinics to help you discover what it is that is actually causing your allergic reactions. These methods include:

– 30-minute scratch test – a skin test that uses extracts; a concentrated liquid form of common allergens. These allergins include pollen, mold, dust mites, animal dander, and different foods. Once the allergen gets in your skin, it could trigger a rash. Your skin will get irritated and may itch, like a mosquito bite indicating an allergic reaction.

– Blood testing – Blood tests for allergies called ELISA studies are the second line method for testing for allergies. It is typically reserved for people who for some medical reason cannot have the scratch test.

Once we have identified what it is you are reacting to there are two forms of treatment that we offer. These treatments include:

– Allergy Injections – Allergy shots essentially help your body to cope better with allergens in the environment. Allergy shots are also referred to as “immunotherapy”. These shots may be your best option if over the counter allergy drugs don’t work well or you have symptoms more than three months a year.

– Allergy Drops – Allergy drops work the same way as the shots, but are delivered under the tongue. Both allergy shots and drops must be taken on a regular basis for many months to work effectively.

There are many ways to combat allergies once a person knows what it is they are reacting to. It can be as simple as a shift in lifestyle and can completely raise your quality of life, yet if it goes undiagnosed it can rid you of so much. Find out what it is you are reacting to and begin to manage your life.

What Is A Routine Physical and Why Do I Need One?

What is a routine physical?
Most major insurance companies cover one routine physical per year that is covered at 100%. At this time you can ask your PCP questions about your health or discuss any changes or problems that you have noticed including symptoms that may be connected to low testosterone.

A physical examination is a routine test your primary care provider (PCP) performs to check your overall health. A PCP may be a doctor, a nurse practitioner, or a physician assistant.  You don’t have to be sick to request an exam, it is also known as a wellness exam.

There are different tests that can be performed during your physical examination. Depending on your age or medical or family history, your PCP may recommend additional testing.

A physical examination helps your PCP to determine the general status of your health. The exam also gives you a chance to talk to them about any ongoing pain or symptoms that you’re experiencing or any other health concerns that you might have.

A physical examination is recommended at least once a year. These exams are used to:

  1. check for possible diseases so they can be treated early
  2. identify any issues that may become medical concerns in the future
  3. update necessary immunizations
  4. ensure that you are maintaining a healthy diet and exercise routine

These exams are a good way to check cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugar levels. These levels may be high without you ever showing any signs or symptoms. Regular screening allows your PCP to treat these conditions before they become severe.

Your PCP may also perform a physical exam before a surgery or before beginning your treatment for a medical condition.

Proper preparation for your physical can help you get the most out of your time with your PCP. You should gather the following information prior to your appointment:

  1. list of current medications, including over-the-counter drugs and any herbal supplements
  2. list of any symptoms or pain you are experiencing
  3. results from any recent or relevant tests
  4. medical and surgical history
  5. names and contact information for other doctors you may have seen recently
  6. if you have an implanted device such as a pacemaker or defibrillator, bring a copy of the front and back of your device card
  7. any additional questions you would like answered

What to expect

During your exam, you will be asked a series of questions regarding your medical history, including any allergies, past surgeries, or symptoms you might have. They may also ask about your lifestyle, including if you exercise, smoke, or drink alcohol. Your PCP will also record your height, weight, and pulse.

Your PCP will usually begin inspecting your body for unusual marks or growths. You may sit or stand during this part of the exam.

Next, they may have you lie down and will feel your abdomen and other parts of your body. When doing this, your PCP is inspecting the consistency, location, size, tenderness, and texture of your individual organs.

A stethoscope will be used to listen to various parts of your body. This could include listening to your lungs while you take deep breaths and listening to your intestines, your heart and your lungs.

Your PCP will also use a technique known as “percussion,” which involves tapping the body like it’s a drum. This technique helps your PCP discover fluid in areas where it shouldn’t be, as well as locate the borders, consistency, and size of organs.

And that’s about the extent of a routine physical examination.

To book your routine physical call the clinic nearest you and be sure to let them know what it is you are interested in knowing about. If getting your testosterone levels checked is a priority make a point of saying so. Also, be sure to have them look into your coverage to ensure that you are covered.

You can trust that having your physical at T Off Men’s Health there will be little to no wait time and you will feel comfortable in the sports-themed clinic atmosphere. Our goal is to have you in and out as quickly as possible so you b=can be on with your day.

We look forward supporting you in feeling your best.
