Holiday Tips For Staying Healthy

It’s the holiday season and it’s easy to get run down with all the extra responsibilities, stress and fluctuation of weather.

  1. Wash hands often to help prevent the spread of germs. It’s flu season. Wash your hands with soap and clean running water for at least 20 seconds.
  2. Bundle up to stay dry and warm. Wear appropriate outdoor clothing: light, warm layers, gloves, hats, scarves, and waterproof boots.
  3. Manage stress. Give yourself a break if you feel stressed out, overwhelmed, and out of control. Some of the best ways to manage stress are to find support, connect socially, and get plenty of sleep.
  4. Don’t drink and drive or let others drink and drive. Whenever anyone drives drunk, they put everyone on the road in danger. Choose not to drink and drive and help others do the same.
  5. Be smoke-free. Avoid smoking and secondhand smoke. Smokers have greater health risks because of their tobacco use, but nonsmokers also are at risk when exposed to tobacco smoke.
  6. Fasten seat belts while driving or riding in a motor vehicle. Always buckle your children in the car using a child safety seat, booster seat, or seat belt according to their height, weight, and age. Buckle up every time, no matter how short the trip and encourage passengers to do the same.
  7. Get exams and screenings. Ask your health care provider what exams you need and when to get them. Update your personal and family history.
  8. Get your vaccinations. Vaccinations help prevent diseases and save lives. Everyone 6 months and older should get a flu vaccine each year.
  9. Monitor children. Keep potentially dangerous toys, food, drinks, household items, and other objects out of children’s reach. Protect them from drowning, burns, falls, and other potential accidents.
  10. Practice fire safety. Most residential fires occur during the winter months, so don’t leave fireplaces, space heaters, food cooking on stoves, or candles unattended. Have an emergency plan and practice it regularly.
  11. Prepare food safely. Remember these simple steps: Wash hands and surfaces often, avoid cross-contamination, cook foods to proper temperatures and refrigerate foods promptly.
  12. Eat healthy, stay active. Eat fruits and vegetables which pack nutrients and help lower the risk for certain diseases. Limit your portion sizes and foods high in fat, salt, and sugar. Also, be active for at least 2½ hours a week and help kids and teens be active for at least 1 hour a day.

5 Questions To Ask When Choosing A Primary Care Doctor

There are a lot of options out there in the healthcare industry. You can’t turn on the radio, T.V. or computer without seeing or hearing some kind of advertising stating why you need to choose this clinic or doctor, or why you need this prescription or health solution. It’s overwhelming how many options there are today in most facets of life.

How does one actually make decisions when there are so many options pulling you in so many different directions?

We are still a society of referrals, where someone will refer you to their doctor for whatever reason. You may take their suggestion solely because you don’t have the time to look into it for yourself. Making a decision based on your specific needs and goals can produce better results, as we are all individuals with different needs and goals.

Before making a decision about your primary care provider, here are 5 basic questions you can ask yourself to make sure you are making a decision based on your individual desires:

  1. What are my primary care needs and goals?

Are you looking for someone to see because you are feeling under the weather, need prescriptions filled quickly and easily, looking for a clinic/team to build a relationship with, do you have concerns that you would like to be treated or are you wanting to be aware and on top of your personal wellness? Have you actually ever considered what a primary care doctor can or should be able to do for you? Knowing your needs and goals gives you a starting place on making a decision that is individual to your specific needs.

2. What is their primary care coverage?

Once you have defined what it is you are looking for from a primary care facility, knowing the capabilities of different clinics will help you narrow down which one is right for you. A simple phone inquiry or look on their website should give you a good idea of the services they offer, and if that is not the case you may want to keep looking.

3. Are they in-network with my insurance provider?

Did you know that not all doctors/clinics accept insurance? Knowing your coverage prior to your visit will help you avoid surprise medical bills. At T Off Men’s Health, we verify your insurance prior to your appointment and are happy to contact you to go over your coverage with you.

4. Are there any specialty services covered?

This is what truly sets us apart from the rest. In addition to the primary care services we offer, we also offer specialty services such as hormone replacement, allergy testing and treatment, weight loss services, botox or “BROtox” as we like to call it, and are constantly expanding our services list to better support the health and wellness our patients. With us being a primary care office we are able to cover many of our specialty services through insurance. Here’s why getting us to check your insurance coverage and switching to us is a great idea (you are paying for the coverage, why not use it for whatever you can!!)

5. Is the location convenient enough for me to regularly use them as my provider?

We all know that no really likes to go to the doctor. Not only do we have 3 convenient clinic locations in Keller, Uptown Dallas, and Downtown Fort Worth, but we have designed each clinic with men in mind. Come in and relax in our leather recliners, listen to sports and be surrounded by your favourite team’sams garb. We are making the doctor’s office experience more enjoyable for our patient’s with short wait times and a more relaxed atmosphere.

Ask yourself these 5 questions, and if you have any more don’t hesitate to call our office to speak to one of our friendly staff. We are here to support your health and wellness needs and goals.

Curing Allergies Vs Treating Allergy Symptoms

Do you suffer from allergies? Do you know what it is you are actually allergic to? If you forget your morning allergy pill are you experiencing symptoms all day?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, we have a long-term solution for you.

Did you know that it is possible to essentially cure your allergies and save money doing it?

I did some quick research into the most common over the counter allergy pills and their monthly costs. I discovered the range of cost per month is roughly between $312-$432. Add this cost to what you are already paying monthly for medical insurance and you are looking at a high monthly cost to feel ok, as long as the pills work decently for you and actually last as long as they claim to.

Cetirizine (Zyrtec $32/month= $384 Yearly), fexofenadine (Allegra $26/month= $312 Yearly) and loratadine (Claritin $36/month= $432 Yearly)

Some insurance companies have full coverage of allergy testing and treatment. This means that you can get treatment for what you are already paying monthly. Why not put the money you are already spending to use and save that monthly over the counter treatment cost?

So what is allergy testing and even more so how does the treatment cure allergies?

We perform a quick simple test that covers 72 environmental and food allergies to discover exactly what it is you are reacting to. There are two options for tests:

  • 30-minute scratch test – Skin tests use extracts — a concentrated liquid form — of common allergens like pollen, mold, dust mites, animal dander, and foods. Once the allergen gets in your skin, it could trigger a rash. Your skin will get irritated and may itch, like a mosquito bite.
  • Blood testing – Blood tests for allergies called ELISA studies are the second line method for testing for allergies. It is typically reserved for people who for some medical reason cannot have the scratch test.

Once we have established what it is we are treating, we then decide between two treatment methods:

  • Allergy Injections – Allergy shots essentially help your body to cope better with allergens in the environment. Allergy shots also called “immunotherapy,” may work for you if allergy drugs don’t work well or you have symptoms more than three months a year.
  • Allergy Drops – Allergy drops work the same way as the shots, but are delivered under the tongue. These drops are created specifically for you depending on what is revealed in the allergy testing. They are a special elixer for your needs and are delivered to your house monthly. A very easy option.

Both allergy shots and drops must be taken on a regular basis for many months to work effectively, but have the potential to cure you of your allergies over time.

In closing, why would you not only want to save the yearly cost of over the counter allergy treatments, and put the hard earned money you are already paying for your health care insurance to good use.

To have us check your insurance coverage or to set up an allergy testing appointment at our Dallas, Keller or Fort Worth office call our corporate office at 817-345-0303.

Start feeling your best again with the support of T Off Men’s Health.

How To Cure Your Allergies This Season

Texas is one of the worst states for allergies in all the US and here is why…

As the seasons begin to change, a whole other wave of allergies starts to affect the people of Texas, more specifically the DFW area. The winter is what really sets Texas apart from other areas in terms of bad allergies. Most states endure cold snaps, snow, and regularly freezing temperatures that halts pollen from being spread in the air. In Texas however, the warm environment welcomes the Juniper tree (which we associate with our cedar allergies) to release its pollen in the air. This leads to Texas’ arguably worst allergy season to happen when a large chunk of the country isn’t experiencing allergies at all.Instead of running away, you can still live here in beautiful Texas allergy free. There are plenty of ways to lessen the amount your allergies developed and allergy drops allow your body to build a resistance to these allergies so they no longer bother you.

Are you experiencing sneezing, respiratory issues, hives? How about fatigue or digestive issues? What about watering eyes, running nose or conjestion? These are just a few symptoms that could mean that you have an allergy.

Allergy Testing

We can perform a quick simple test that covers 72 environmental and food allergies to help you keep your energy levels at peak performance. Don’t let allergies destroy your quality of life.

– 30 minute scratch test – Skin tests use extracts — a concentrated liquid form — of common allergens like pollen, mold, dust mites, animal dander, and foods. Once the allergen gets in your skin, it could trigger a rash. Your skin will get irritated and may itch, like a mosquito bite.

– Blood testing – Blood tests for allergies called ELISA studies are the second line method for testing for allergies. It is typically reserved for people who for some medical reason cannot have the scratch test.

How We Treat Allergies

– Allergy Injections – Allergy shots essentially help your body to cope better with allergens in the environment. Allergy shots, also called “immunotherapy,” may work for you if allergy drugs don’t work well or you have symptoms more than three months a year.

– Allergy Drops – Allergy drops work the same way as the shots, but are delivered under the tongue. Both allergy shots and drops must be taken on a regular basis for many months to work effectively.

If you could essentailly cure your allergie in less then an hour would you?

If you are ready to stop suffering and regain your quality of life contact your nearet T Off Men’s Heath Clinic to get allergy testing and treatment. You won’t regret it!

Finally Get The Allergy Relief You’ve Been Looking For

Whether you experience allergies yourself or not, you definitely know someone that is affected. You know the tell-tale symptoms; red nose and eyes, sinus congestion, sneezing, runny nose and all around look of exhaustion. If you do experience this yourself you know that there can be little relief. It’s quite astounding to hear so many patients say that living other places they never experienced allergies as bad as here in Texas.

So What Are Allergies Actually?

An Allergy is an abnormal immune system response to typical household and environmental substances. These substances are called allergens. They are found in cat and dog hair, plants, molds, and foods. The allergens cause the immune system to overreact.

When a person eats, inhales or gets an allergen on their skin, an allergic reaction occurs. The body attacks the allergen as an invader by producing antibodies. The antibody, called IgE, attaches to the allergen and acts as a messenger. It calls the body’s immune system into action to defend against the allergen. The body then produces histamine from mast cells. Mast cells are found throughout the respiratory and gastrointestinal system. Histamine produces the symptoms associated with allergies such as sneezing, itching, watery eyes and gastrointestinal complaints.

How We Help

We perform a quick simple test that covers 72 environmental and food allergies to help you keep your energy levels at peak performance.

There are two methods we offer at each of our clinics to help you discover what it is that is actually causing your allergic reactions. These methods include:

– 30-minute scratch test – a skin test that uses extracts; a concentrated liquid form of common allergens. These allergins include pollen, mold, dust mites, animal dander, and different foods. Once the allergen gets in your skin, it could trigger a rash. Your skin will get irritated and may itch, like a mosquito bite indicating an allergic reaction.

– Blood testing – Blood tests for allergies called ELISA studies are the second line method for testing for allergies. It is typically reserved for people who for some medical reason cannot have the scratch test.

Once we have identified what it is you are reacting to there are two forms of treatment that we offer. These treatments include:

– Allergy Injections – Allergy shots essentially help your body to cope better with allergens in the environment. Allergy shots are also referred to as “immunotherapy”. These shots may be your best option if over the counter allergy drugs don’t work well or you have symptoms more than three months a year.

– Allergy Drops – Allergy drops work the same way as the shots, but are delivered under the tongue. Both allergy shots and drops must be taken on a regular basis for many months to work effectively.

There are many ways to combat allergies once a person knows what it is they are reacting to. It can be as simple as a shift in lifestyle and can completely raise your quality of life, yet if it goes undiagnosed it can rid you of so much. Find out what it is you are reacting to and begin to manage your life.

Why You Need A Primary Care Doctor

A primary care doctor or PCP is a patient’s main source for regular medical care, ideally providing continuity and integration of all health care services. The aims of primary care are to provide the patient with a broad spectrum of preventive and curative care over a period of time and to coordinate all other speciality care that the patient requires.

Medicine and healthcare is changing. Physicians, Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners are at the front lines of this change. Having a good relationship with your healthcare provider in this new era of healthcare is not about sick care anymore. As a matter of fact, you can get a cold treated at your local grocery store now or go to any of the 5 urgent care centers in your neighborhood. T Off Men’s Health providers are here to help you stay healthy and focus on wellness. Sure we can treat the common cold, but what about your goals, lifestyle, disease prevention, coaching and exercise programs? Shouldn’t your healthcare be about what it takes to help keep you at the top of your game? T Off Men’s Health providers are consultants – coaches – on your team – for your health.

In an increasingly complex medical world, having a team of knowledgeable physicians who are up to date with the latest medical advances, who also know your health history has become more important then ever.

Research curated by Health Affairs journal found that patients who have a PCP benefit from better management and treatment of chronic diseases, lower overall health-care costs and a higher level of satisfaction with their care.

Here are the five of the most important benefits you gain from building a strong and continuous relationship with a PCP like those found at T Off clinics.

1. Easier COMMUNICATION.

When patients are familiar with their physician and the office staff, appointments are less stressful and more productive. It’s more comfortable to talk about sensitive issues with someone you know in a familiar setting than with a stranger in a strange place.

2. CONTINUITY.

Having a single physician who has seen you for everything from the flu to lab tests to blood-pressure means having a wellness resource who knows your history. When you need an office visit, you don’t have to explain that there’s prostate cancer in your family or list the medications you’re taking and in what doses—it’s all in your record already allowing for faster visits.

3. CONVENIENCE.

With a PCP you can access a variety of health services: preventive care and screenings; care for chronic conditions such as asthma, hypertension and diabetes; and acute care for problems like coughs, digestive issues and high fever. In addition to these regular primary care services T Off Men’s Health also offers speciality services you would otherwise need to see an outside speciality doctor for.

4. EARLY DETECTION.

Consistent check-ups and contact with a single physician and office make it more likely that any health issues will be detected early when they’re most treatable.

5. HEALTH MAINTENANCE.

Your primary care doctor is uniquely positioned to help you avoid health problems. Based on the doctor’s examination and your medical history, he or she can determine whether you’re at increased risk for conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and cancer, and then help you take steps to prevent them from developing.

6. It Just Makes Sense

Most major insurance companies offer a yearly routine physical that is 100% covered to help people manage their health, in turn saving them money in the long run through early detection. By choosing a PCP and booking an appointment with them, you are able to stay on top of your wellness and live the best life you can with the peace of mind that is offered when receiving a clean bill of health.

Now, what are you waiting for? Isn’t it time that you had a primary care practitioner?

What Is A Routine Physical and Why Do I Need One?

What is a routine physical?
Most major insurance companies cover one routine physical per year that is covered at 100%. At this time you can ask your PCP questions about your health or discuss any changes or problems that you have noticed including symptoms that may be connected to low testosterone.

A physical examination is a routine test your primary care provider (PCP) performs to check your overall health. A PCP may be a doctor, a nurse practitioner, or a physician assistant.  You don’t have to be sick to request an exam, it is also known as a wellness exam.

There are different tests that can be performed during your physical examination. Depending on your age or medical or family history, your PCP may recommend additional testing.

A physical examination helps your PCP to determine the general status of your health. The exam also gives you a chance to talk to them about any ongoing pain or symptoms that you’re experiencing or any other health concerns that you might have.

A physical examination is recommended at least once a year. These exams are used to:

  1. check for possible diseases so they can be treated early
  2. identify any issues that may become medical concerns in the future
  3. update necessary immunizations
  4. ensure that you are maintaining a healthy diet and exercise routine

These exams are a good way to check cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugar levels. These levels may be high without you ever showing any signs or symptoms. Regular screening allows your PCP to treat these conditions before they become severe.

Your PCP may also perform a physical exam before a surgery or before beginning your treatment for a medical condition.

Proper preparation for your physical can help you get the most out of your time with your PCP. You should gather the following information prior to your appointment:

  1. list of current medications, including over-the-counter drugs and any herbal supplements
  2. list of any symptoms or pain you are experiencing
  3. results from any recent or relevant tests
  4. medical and surgical history
  5. names and contact information for other doctors you may have seen recently
  6. if you have an implanted device such as a pacemaker or defibrillator, bring a copy of the front and back of your device card
  7. any additional questions you would like answered

What to expect

During your exam, you will be asked a series of questions regarding your medical history, including any allergies, past surgeries, or symptoms you might have. They may also ask about your lifestyle, including if you exercise, smoke, or drink alcohol. Your PCP will also record your height, weight, and pulse.

Your PCP will usually begin inspecting your body for unusual marks or growths. You may sit or stand during this part of the exam.

Next, they may have you lie down and will feel your abdomen and other parts of your body. When doing this, your PCP is inspecting the consistency, location, size, tenderness, and texture of your individual organs.

A stethoscope will be used to listen to various parts of your body. This could include listening to your lungs while you take deep breaths and listening to your intestines, your heart and your lungs.

Your PCP will also use a technique known as “percussion,” which involves tapping the body like it’s a drum. This technique helps your PCP discover fluid in areas where it shouldn’t be, as well as locate the borders, consistency, and size of organs.

And that’s about the extent of a routine physical examination.

To book your routine physical call the clinic nearest you and be sure to let them know what it is you are interested in knowing about. If getting your testosterone levels checked is a priority make a point of saying so. Also, be sure to have them look into your coverage to ensure that you are covered.

You can trust that having your physical at T Off Men’s Health there will be little to no wait time and you will feel comfortable in the sports-themed clinic atmosphere. Our goal is to have you in and out as quickly as possible so you b=can be on with your day.

We look forward supporting you in feeling your best.

Feel Your Best With Preventive Care

What is preventive care?

There is an old saying “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure?” This is especially true when it comes to preventive care services.

Maintaining or even improving your health with regular preventive care, before things even get bad, along with following the advice of your doctor, allow you to stay healthy and continuously feeling your best. Routine checkups and screenings can help you avoid future serious health problems, allowing you and your doctor to work as a team to manage your overall health, and help you reach your personal health and wellness goals.

Preventive care focuses on evaluating your current health status while you are symptom-free. Preventive care allows you to obtain early diagnosis and treatment, to help avoid more serious health problems. Even if you’re in the best shape of your life, a serious condition with no signs or symptoms may put your health at risk. Through a preventive exam and routine health screenings, your doctor can determine your current health status and detect early warning signs of more serious problems.
