Stress is an inevitable factor of life. Finding ways to manage stress is the key to living a happy, healthy life. Our health is affected by many factors. At T Off Your Health we are here to provide medical care for you and your body, physical tests that tell you where you are at when it comes to cholesterol, blood pressure, PSA and so much more. There are the obvious components that can positively affect your health such as diet and exercise, but there is something else that has been scientifically proven to offer boundless benefits which is meditation.
There is a misconception of what meditation really is, some people believe it is some kind of religious practice but it is not, it is much simpler and self focused then that. Wikipedia defines it as follows: “Meditation is a practice where an individual uses a technique – such as mindfulness, or focusing the mind on a particular object, thought or activity – to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state.Scholars have found meditation difficult to define, as practices vary both between traditions and within them. Meditation may be used with the aim of reducing stress, anxiety, depression, and pain, and increasing peace, perception,self-concept, and well-being. Meditation is under research to define it’s possible health (psychological, neurological, and cardiovascular) and other effects.”
Are you convinced that you would like to try this magical practice? Wondering how? There are multiple different techniques for meditating. Having tried them all, I find that a guided meditation is the easiest. This means that you sit or lay and listen to something, sometimes there is talking sometimes there isn’t. Sometimes having a voice to focus on makes it easier to focus and sometimes it is a distraction. Below is a 20 minute video that you can simply sit or lie down and focus on the sound, if your mind wonders, gently bring it back to the sound. Meditation is not about clearing the mind, it is about distracting it for long enough to find some actual quiet.
Finding a clam space helps your health in countless ways, but it also helps your relationships and career. Give yourself the gift of meditation, even if it is only for 5 minutes. Promise it will be worth it and get easier and easier the more you practice.
